Retro-Inspired Sounds are making a Rock Music Comeback

Everything old is new again in the world of rock music. From ‘80s-inspired synth-pop to ‘90s-era hip-hop beats, retro sounds are making a major comeback. This is especially true in the Rock genre. 90% of the tracks we are considering for our shows are inspired heavily by the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.

What we look for at AVA Live Radio is rock music that steps outside of the usual. A spectacular range, grand guitar solo, vibrant harmonies, energetic drums or cultural percussion are all elements being scene in todays rock stars. This return to big rock ballads and charged up musical displays are sweetening the pot. Let’s hope it lasts this time.

Emo is one Music Trend that I’m hearing lately in music submissions and I have to say it’s about time. It’s great to see this sub-genre reemerging among new creators.

What Is Emo Music?

Emo music is a subgenre of punk rock, indie rock, and alternative rock music defined by its heavy emotional expression. Emo is part of the post-hardcore band scene, with artists delving into songs with more substance and feeling.

EMO rock became popular in the early 2000s, but we’re seeing a resurgence of this genre with a modern twist in 2023. Emotional lyrics, heavy guitar riffs, and screaming vocals are making a comeback in rock music.

More and more bands are also incorporating electronic elements into their sound. We can expect to see emo-inspired rock music making a major impact on the scene in May 2023. It’s going to be an exciting month for rock music fans!

Rock bands known for their EMO influence are also gaining popularity once again. Bands like My Chemical Romance, Dashboard Confessional, and Taking Back Sunday are being rediscovered by younger generations, while also maintaining a loyal fan base from their prime in the early 2000s.

The fusion of traditional rock instruments with electronic elements creates a fresh and dynamic sound that is sure to leave a lasting impact. It’s exciting to see the evolution of emo rock and its impact on the current music scene.

Tune in daily for Jacqueline Jax on AVA Live Radio

The Time of Death 4:44 by The American Scream has an emotion and rawness in the lyrics that is striking a chord with EMO Rock fans who crave authenticity and relatable experiences. I think this artist has found his calling in music. The progressions are powerful and he holds nothing back. His vocals are focused and resonate well with compelling lyrics about his struggle. The song itself is catchy and easily hooks the listener in several verses and the chorus. I especially enjoy his voice as he uses his wide range in a relatable way. This is an artist who will help to bring back the connection of EMO in rock music fans once again in 2023. I think this is great timing for rock music.

The American Scream was formed in 2023 by singer, guitarist, and songwriter Darrel Chavez. His passion for emo music and a desire to help those struggling led to releasing his first single. With influences ranging from Senses Fail to Alkaline Trio, the band has quickly made a name for itself with its unique sound and powerful lyrics.

Lead singer, Darrel, says, “This song is about my own struggles with alcoholism, and the pain of losing family members to the disease. I wanted to create something that would speak to others who have gone through the same thing and let them know that they are not alone.”

POS by Sueco

POS by Sueco is a song that combines elements of hip hop and emo rock to create a unique sound. The heavy bass and catchy beat make for an infectious track that will get stuck in your head. The lyrics touch on the struggles of growing up and finding your place in the world. Sueco’s flow is powerful and confident, making him a rising star in the world of emo-inspired music.

Easy by Like Roses

Easy by Like Roses is a beautiful and melancholy track that showcases the band’s emotive lyrics and haunting melodies. The song deals with themes of heartbreak and loss, but also touches on the healing power of music. The stripped-down instrumentation emphasizes the emotional weight of the lyrics, making for a powerful and moving listening experience.

Hold Me Like a Grudge by Fall Out Boy

Hold Me Like a Grudge by Fall Out Boy is a song that combines the classic punk rock sound of Fall Out Boy with an emo twist. The catchy chorus and dynamic guitar riffs are sure to get listeners singing along. The lyrics deal with the pain of letting go of a past love and the struggle to move on. This track is a great addition to any emo rock playlist.

Hostile Array – Numb

Release date: Apr 14, 2023
Genre: Pop Punk, Emo , Post-Hardcore

Maryland natives Hostile Array are the result of constant evolution. Once described by Metal Hammer Magazine as a “well-balanced blend of heavy and catchy post-hardcore”, the band has shifted their focus to redefining the sound they captured on their 2018 debut into something equally as poised, but harder to define.

While still taking inspiration from the intensity and emotion of early 2000s post-hardcore, the band has willfully embraced a more pop centric medium; leaning into catchy hooks, polished production, and alternative beats. Never shying away from potential inspiration and refusing to be defined, Hostile Array has created a sound that is uniquely their own.

Cyan1de by Nothing, Nowhere

Cyan1de by Nothing, Nowhere is another single that showcases the artist’s ability to blend genres. The electronic elements and distorted vocals add a futuristic feel to the classic emo sound. The lyrics deal with themes of isolation and the struggle to connect with others. This track is perfect for fans of both emo and electronic music.

Whether you’re going through a tough breakup or just need a high-energy track to jam to, ‘Forget You’ is the anthem you’ve been waiting for. Crank up the volume, sing your heart out, and let the healing begin!

Curious/Furious by Willow

Curious/Furious by Willow is a song that combines the artist’s soulful vocals with a punk rock edge. The catchy chorus and driving guitar riffs make for an anthemic track that is sure to get the crowd jumping at live shows.
